Re-flashing the 06.15.00 iPhone 3GS BaseBand

Only for 3GS users with 6.15.00 bb or those that want 6.15.00 and know about potential loss of GPS. Very Important that you have old boot rom - new boot rom may/will likely kill the GPS functionality on the iPhone.

If you accidentally tried to upgrade your iphone 3GS to iOS5 through stock official IPSW through iTunes on an already jailbroken iPhone with a baseband of 06.15.00 things are not going to be smooth in terms of service and reception and may require a ‘re-flash’ aka a re-install 0f the 06.15.00 baseband.

The baseband may be inconsistent and lose signal or carrier and your iPhone may be caught in a recovery loop in iTunes.

Process

So what you will need:

iOS & redsn0w Downloads

Get the latest Redsn0w   — Mac OSX redsn0w 0.9.10b8b  or  Windows redsn0w 0.9.10b8b
iPhone 3GS iOS 5.1
- updated iTunes

Flashing The Baseband

- Launch redsnow – click ‘extras’

redn0w-launch

redn0w-launch

- click ‘Select IPSW’ – navigate to the downloaded ‘iPhone2,1_5.1_9B176_Restore.ipsw’ – OK

- answer the model boot-room question – if you don’t know follow the boot rom guide here

- click ‘back’ click ‘jailbreak’

- click ‘install ipad baseband’

Read the warning – follow redsn0w instructions to get to DFU mode and do not interrupt the process.

After it has flashed – you can use the same method above and use the ‘Install Cydia’ option and then when the iphone reboots install ultrasn0w.

since your baseband is already unlockable then I wouldn’t bother changing the baseband

  • Crazydude

just wondering mate is it possible to flash the baseband AND install cydia in the same process? ticking both boxes would save a lot of time, im following your instructions but youd think you could install cydia in the one go.

(i would like to preface this by saying that when i first downloaded the custom ipsw from the link on this website, coolestguyplanet, it sent me to one with iOS 5.0? i happened to notice and redownloaded it and it and it came up as 5.0.1…weird)   wow. so i followed these directions and links but accidentally installed cydia along with the iPad flash (at the same time). When my iPhone rebooted i had the iPad baseband but the cydia icon was white. I went to iPhone Dev Teams website(thanks!) and got the latest jailbreak and rejailbroke my iPhone. I waited and crossed my fingers to see the “searching” disappear and they finally did. I immediately went to check the gps service and it was GOOD. it got me within a footstep. I did notice though that when I turned on the gps my signal bars went back to searching..i guess they can’t work at the same time…no biggie. thanks NEIL! i searched for hours for the right website to find the right process, and you seemed to take every possibility into account!

Hi, I have an unlocked/jailbreak iphone 3GS, and just upgraded to 4.2.1.   Stupid me, I lost the unlocked part.  Now I can not use it on TMobile anymore.  Therefore, I want to upgrade it to IOS5 but I didn’t see the baseband listed here (05.15.04).  What should I do now, Please help.  I just want to use this iphone with TMobile.  Will I be able to update it to IOS5 and unlock it for TMobile.  Thank you very much!

I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you posted this – My daughter updated her iphone that was jailbroken on ios5 and ipad baseband. It messed it up royally – and my frantic attempts to fix it (over the course of 12 hours) I am sure did not help its situation. I  was ready to give up – when I saw your post. Followed it to a “t” and it worked perfectly. The thing that was different about it from what I had tried in the past was flashing the baseband FIRST and then installing Cydia on the second pass – also using the custom firmware – I had tried others – but your method worked perfectly. THANK YOU!!!!! (My daughter thanks you as well!!!!0

    Next Challenge,
The above process works fine on my 3GS, its a tethered boot though, which I dont like.
I decided to pay for a network unlock, I thought I could just re-install IOS5.1 and away to go, but it cant find a SIM card.

    Should that happen?

Quick question: I have an iPhone 3GS on 5.0.1 with the iPad baseband  (06.15.00). Now I actually got the phone unlocked from my carrier because my contract was up. Can I safely just upgrade to 5.1 via iTunes and then get the 5.1 baseband or will I have to stick with my jailbroken phone. (The reason, I’d like to go back to original is mainly the GPS functionality.)

You never come back to BB 5.16 until DEV-TEAM release the tools. I’m waiting here also..
