Prepare for Your Move to Your First Offices

Many businesses in the UK are currently run from the home. Setting up a home office is a great way of saving money in the first few months or years, but in time you will outgrow the space you have in your home. As your business grows you will need to expand the offices and eventually make the leap from the home office into a commercial office building.

Moving to your first offices is exciting but it can also be time consuming and stressful. Here are some tips that will ensure the whole process runs smoothly.

Work Out What You Need From Your Office

Your first job is working out what your requirements are. You will need to think about how many desks you need to fit into the space, how much room you need for storage, if you need to have 24 hour access and what services need to be available nearby. Make a list of the things you absolutely need and a separate list of things that you want to have but which aren’t essential.

When you have your lists you can begin your search. It is often worth using an estate agent, especially if time is an issue. If you would like to save some money and avoid the expensive fees for using the agents you could conduct the search yourself. Look in the local paper and contact local business associations to see what’s available in your area.

Go for the Short Term

When you move to an office for the first time there is a chance that you pick one that isn’t quite everything you hoped it would be. Therefore, it is always best to choose a short term lease to start with. As your business grows and evolves it can be very useful to have some freedom, this will allow you to move a few months down the line.

Seek Legal Advice

If you have no experience leasing properties and don’t fully understand the contracts, you will be wise to seek legal advice. Contracts can be extremely complicated and you could be hit financially if you are to miss an important clause in the lease. Play it safe and ensure you fully understand what you’re signing and paying for before you make any commitments to a property and a landlord.

Kit Out Your Offices

When you find the right office you will need to kit it out with all the services, utilities and telecommunications you require for conducting your business. Check with the landlord before adding any new wiring, fixtures or fittings and ensure you have the go ahead to make the changes you need to improve your communication speeds and services or to source cheaper service providers.

Write down the phone numbers of all your new service providers or Click here/ http://www.contactnumbersuk.com/ and bookmark the page on your smartphone or tablet. Having quick access to the important phone numbers could be useful if you encounter any problems on the day of the move.
