Disappearing Hard Disk Space on OS X Lion 10.7
Help my disk is full!
Where is all my disk space going ?
My hard drive hardly has got any space left !
I am constantly running out of disk space !
If you are repeating the above statements about your hard disk space, you need a tool to show you what is going on, eventhough hard disks are so much bigger these days they are still going to fill up and the bigger they are the harder it is to find where all the space is being eaten up.
What we need is a graphical representation, a birds eye view of what is going on with our disk – who is taking up all that space. A fantastic application called ‘Grand Perspective‘ does this perfectly!
- Launch it
- Go File > Scan Folder and choose the hard drive
- Check out the results – the bigger the block – the bigger the space – reclaim your space – take out the big guns – (don’t remove anything in the /private folder such as the /private/var/vm swap files and sleep image)
This tool is a keeper!
